Your equipment explained
Your home is connected to OFNL’s ultrafast network, providing full fibre services. The fibre optic cables go directly into your home, right from the telephone exchange, meaning there is no slowdown in speeds – bringing you more reliable broadband.
To enable you to receive full fibre broadband, you will have some equipment installed within your home that you may not be familiar with. This video explains what the ONT and Battery Backup Unit do, and what to do if they stop working.
Your ONT
Your ONT
The ONT is where the fibre enters your home. The ONT will connect to your router to provide you with broadband and your telephone for voice services.
- The WAN light should be solid green, if it is off or flashing then this indicates a problem with the ONT. Contact your broadband service provider in this instance
- If you have a broadband service, the LAN light should be flashing green. If it isn’t check the cable is securely plugged into your router and ONT, or contact your broadband service provider for assistance
- If you have a phone service then the phone light should be solid green. If it’s off, then contact your broadband service provider
Your battery backup unit
Your battery backup unit
You may have a battery backup unit connected to your ONT. In the event of a power outage, the battery backup unit will keep your ONT powered on for at least an hour, and will allow you to make and receive calls, including to the emergency services.
In order to do this, your landline phone must be connected to the ONT, either directly or through your home wiring.
- The light on your battery backup unit should be green. This indicates the power is on and the battery is fully charged
- If the light is flashing, this indicates the battery is charging
- If the light is red, this indicates a fault. Check the unit is plugged in and the power is switched on. If the red light continues, please contact your phone service provider
